Medications to Avoid Prior to Treatment
Weight Loss and Diabetes Type 2:
GLP-1 Agonist Medications
- For Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, Trulicity or Bydureon BCise weekly:
- Hold this dose 1 week prior to your scheduled procedure.
- For Byetta, Rybelsus, Saxenda, or Victoza daily:
- Hold this dose on the day of your scheduled procedure.

- Dulaglutide (Trulicity)
- Exenatide (Byetta)
- Exenatide Extended Release (Bydureon BCise)
- Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda)
- Semaglutide subcutaneous, tablet (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy)
- Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound)
SGL-2 Inhibitor Medications
- For Brenzavvy, Farxiga, Jardiance, Inpefa, Invokana, Invokamet, Invokamet XR,
Steglatro, Synjardy, Synjardy XR, Trijardy XR, Xigduo, Xigduo XR, Qtern, Qternmet daily:- Hold this dose for 3 days prior to your scheduled procedure.
Here is a list of the available SGLT-2 Inhibitors available on the market generic name listed with commercial name in parenthesis:
- Bexagliflozin (Brenzavvy)
- Canagliflozin (Invokana, Invokamet, Invokamet XR)
- Dapagliflozin (Farxiga, Qtern, Qternmet, Xigduo, Xigduo XR)
- Empagliflozin (Jardiance, Synjardy, Synjardy XR, Trijardy XR)
- Ertugliflozin (Steglatro)
- Sotagliflozin (Inpefa)
If you take any of the above medications for Diabetes, please contact your physician and make them aware of our request for you to stop this medication prior to your procedure. They should advise you if you need to replace this medication with another diabetic medication.
