Medications To Avoid Before Prostate Biopsy & MR Fusion Biopsy

Please review this ENTIRE list of medications prior to your procedure at The Stone Center of New Jersey. You should discontinue use of these medications according to the minimum time requirement outlined below. If you have a question about any other medications, please call The Stone Center at 862-235-1983.

In addition to the medications listed below, there are many other products on the market, including many vitamins and supplements that may interfere with the blood’s ability to clot. We recommend that you check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have a question as to whether your medication, vitamin, or supplement contain aspirin or may interfere with the blood’s ability to clot.

If you are taking Coumadin*, Lovenox, Fragmin or Arixtra please contact your prescribing Physician immediately and make him/her aware of our request to discontinue this medication prior to your scheduled procedure.

*INR required for patients taking Coumadin.

DO NOT STOP TAKING ANY PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS WITHOUT FIRST CHECKING WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN

Please discuss with your Urologist about discontinuing these medications prior to your treatment:

  • Aspirin and Aspirin products (All forms of Aspirin and Salicylates (Buffered, Enteric Coated, Regular etc., including Bayer, Excedrin, Anacin, Ecotrin, Store brands, etc.,  Cremes like Aspercreme, Bengay, Icy Hot, Stomach relievers such as Pepto-Bismol and Alka-Seltzer, THESE ALL CONTAIN ASPIRIN)
  • Ibuprofen and Ibuprofen products and all NSAID medications (Advil, Motrin, Aleve, etc.,)

Discontinue 5 Days Prior To Treatment:

  • Brilinta / (Ticagrelor – Generic)
  • Effient / (Prasugrel – Generic)
  • Plavix / (Clopidogrel – Generic)

Discontinue 4 Days Prior To Treatment:

  • Cilostazol/Pletal
  • Persantine

Discontinue 3 Days Prior To Treatment:

  • (Diflunisal) Only generic
  • Xarelto (Rivarobaxan)
  • Eliquis(Apixaban)
  • (Ketoprofen) Only generic

Discontinue 2 Days Prior To Treatment:

  • Agrylin (Anagrelide) 
  • Elmiron (Pentosan Polysulfate)
  • Pradaxa (Dabigatram)
